8:00 a.m. Your boom-box radio wakes you up blasting whatever boyband has the most popular hit at the time. You look around and see your fuzzy rug and door curtain beads untouched and ready to be disturbed.
8:15 a.m. Mom is downstairs making breakfast (you hope it’s Fruity Pebbles) and after chomping down on your bowl of sugar, you run to the TV to cram in as many cartoons as mom will let you before she tells you that TV will rot your brain and you should go play outside.
9:30 a.m. You're dragging your bike out of the garage after throwing it in there from yesterday’s festivities and ride down to little Billie's house to ask if he can come out and play. Now you know the day's imagination has just started.
Remember back in the 90s when summertime was all blow-up pools, make your own slip and slides, sidewalk chalk, art, and tie-dye t-shirt stations? The simpler times? That's why Starbucks’ new Tie-Dye drink has me feeling all sorts of nostalgia.
Everything had a color or an imagination attached to it and it was a beautiful time.
First of all, I went into this tie-dye extravaganza blindly. I saw a pretty picture and the word ‘tie-dye’ on the Internet and the floodgate of memories just released in my brain. The power of Instagram marketing got me.
Ordering the Tie-Dye Frappuccino as an adult was a little offsetting, especially whilst wearing all black professional attire and having my work bag. That's the peak of childhood summer talking and I was excited about it.
I am not even sure what flavor this concoction is. It got me thinking back to when mom would give us access to the kitchen and we would make as many tie-dye Jell-O molds that we could. We would try to guess what flavors were in each Jell-O mold.
The drink tastes like banana, but then there is a subtle hint of pineapple with vanilla whipped cream (I asked for extra of course).
After looking up the ingredients, a lot of my taste bud opinions were validated. It's a tropical blend of flavors (and colors) that include sugar (obvi), but then some unexpected power powders. All of the colors you see, they're not just red, blue or yellow powders, they are a mixture of turmeric, vegetable juice, and Spirulina, to name a few. All of the things your body needs!
However, the kid in me thinks the powders on top of the whipped cream are full of magical powers and can wish away anything bad, like chores or rainy weather.
All in all, Starbucks Tie-dye Frappuccino is a very refreshing taste of summer and is only available for a very limited time. I'm talking a few days. Which is about the attention span I had whenever I got a new toy. Get the Instagram worthy drink while you can and sip on the memories of summers past.
Love how colorful it is!
