How to Survive The Upcoming Festive Party Season

Alright friends, let's talk... about alcohol.

Tis the season to Eat, Drink and be Merry. It won’t be long before we’re all enjoying all the gifts of the holiday season. There’ll be friends getting together, work parties, and many evenings spent with our close and extended family members. These holiday gatherings are undeniably fun (mostly) but I think we should take some time and care for our bodies during this period as well. We eat way more sugar this time of year than any other time, drink way more alcohol, and indulge in a lot more energetic gatherings. If you don't partake in these events regularly, this can be a LOT on your body. I've gathered up some useful tips for those who want to be festive this season while making sure their body is taken care of.

It’s a Marathon, Not a Sprint

Slow and steady wins the race, especially when the race is as long as the Christmas period. When it comes to spending nights with friends and loved ones, it’s all about drinking in moderation. Keep things steady, and you’ll be able to last through the festive period without thinking “I can’t wait for this to be over.” On the other hand, if you go too big, too early, then you’ll be worn out before the real holiday gets there!  You can’t run at your top speed for a marathon distance!

Post-Party Care

The trick to powering through and being at your glittering best every night is to make sure you have your post-party care routine locked down. Take two Advil before bed, indulge in a drink filled with electrolytes, and eat a delicious breakfast when you wake up. Maybe you struggle through hangovers? I'm a firm believer in the hair of the dog. Stock up on some bloody-mary tonic mix drinks and shop ParkersHangoverTonic.com. Get some more hangover tips by reading my "How to Rock a Hangover" post. Don’t overwhelm yourself and don't plan to do too much. You have permission to spend the day watching Christmas movies on the couch!

Get Some Exercise

Alcohol has strange effects on us. One of the most damaging ones, when it comes to socializing every night, is the effect that it has on our body’s energy levels. We’re all familiar with that sluggish feeling (i.e. me, every day)! You can help to keep that feeling at bay by working up a sweat, though not when you’re too hungover. Don’t wait until January rolls around to get back on the treadmill, plus we all know how packed the gym is on January 2nd... Even thirty minutes of exercise will help you to feel refreshed, and ready to go for another round. Bonus points if your exercise is running through the chilly weather!

Schedule In Downtime

It's okay to say no. You’re just not going to be able to get out every night. So make sure your scheduling in some downtime that allows you to truly recover. There’s more to Christmas than socializing. Make time for those cozy, festive nights spent indoors!

Stay safe this holiday season friends and take care of yourself.
