Travel For Cheap: 4 Ways To See The World For Less

The holidays have my travel bug buzzing.

We see it on social media all the time. People are somehow able to travel the world for months at a time, without running out of money or going broke. How is this lifestyle even possible? If there's a will, there is a way am I right? There are little tricks that you can take advantage of in order to save on some cash.

Choose a Destination that is Affordable

Cheaper destinations include countries in Southeast Asia. The food prices are cheap, there is a ton of cultural diversity and the sights don't compare to anything else. You might also want to look into Vietnam, Indonesia and even Thailand. Portugal is another destination that is relatively cheap, and you may even be able to splurge to some extent. If you want to save even more then keep an eye on exchange rates. You'll find you can take more money to one country when compared to another, and this can make a huge difference to your budget.

Hunt for a Good Deal

Look for packages. I'm not talking about the ones on your front porch; a travel package. A lot of people think booking one-way flights with multiple stops will save them money. Those people are not wrong BUT the time you spend hassling with all of that makes the savings not worth the trouble. I like to look on Priceline, Groupon, and Expedia for vacation deals. Typically, for a few extra dollars more you can book your hotel, flight, and transportation directly. You're still saving money and doing so with fewer headaches. Tourism is a year-round gig, somewhere a travel spot needs more globetrotters running around and they're willing to cut prices in half to do so.

Home Sitting

Home sitting gives you the chance to stay in a country for free. People often need a break from their home and their life in general so they'll go on vacation or they go to stay with family for a few weeks. Some people prefer to have someone look after their house when they do this, and that’s where you come in. By staying in someone’s home while they are away, you can easily dive deeper into a culture and you can also find out the best hot spots in the area. If this doesn’t sound like it’s for you, then you might even want to look into some of the various travel services out there, such as AirBNB as this can also help you to save on travel costs.

Work It

If you can work when you are on your travels, then this is a fantastic way for you to have more money to sustain your travels.  It is surprisingly easy to earn money online. That way you can stay in complete control over your vacation. You don’t have to come back early just because your money is dwindling down, and you can also make impulsive decisions that you would have otherwise not been able to make. Little things like this can easily make a huge difference to your trip. Read my post on jobs you can do from home if you really want to make a lifestyle out of remote careers.
