I Got Rid Of My Alarm Clock And Started Using This App

I've come to the conclusion I do not like alarm clocks. They are the freaking worst. This is 2018 for crying out loud. Why are we still waking up to an obnoxious BEEP BEEP BEEP sound that doesn't start anybody's day off right? It's been more annoying because I'll hit snooze 14 times before I actually move. Waking up on the right side of the bed is so, so important for a productive day and it just WAS NOT happening with my alarm clock. I've recently retired my alarm clock and found a better and more energizing way to get my day started.

I discovered a whole new way to wake up with Yoga Wake UpYoga Wake Up is the first ever yoga alarm clock. I know, seeing the words yoga and alarm clock didn't exactly make sense to me either, but hear me out. This app has completely turned my mornings around and eases me into the day by waking me up with gentle sounds, guided meditation, and yoga practices that I can do WITHOUT leaving my bed.

I had to admit, I never thought about meditating or doing yoga straight from my bed because each session always starts off with a certain position or pose you should be in to start the practice.  This was a total twist on my practice. needless to say, my interest was peaked.

Although waking up early is not a problem for me, I do struggle with getting out of bed. I am so stubborn I will stay under the covers until ten minutes past the last possible second to indulge in my little cocoon of cotton.

So what is all of the hullabaloo?

How It Works:

It is extremely easy to use. I pick the practice I want to indulge in the morning from a list of guided meditations or yoga sessions, set my alarm for the time I want to wake up, put my phone down, 8 hours later, wake up peacefully to some strumming music and gentle voice.

There are a lot of options to pick from because the yoga series ranges from sessions you can do from your bed, to on a mat, or with your kiddos and partner. And when I say there is a range of series, I'm not lying. I can scroll for days in just the "from bed" category so repeat sessions will rarely happen.

--> Yoga Wake Up makes it easy to plan out your week of alarms because you can scroll through the options and add them to your Wake Up schedule or you can add one at a time. I pick my practices based on the day I had previously so I just spend three minutes before bed selecting a meditation or session to wake up too.

Why It Is For EVERYONE:

Upon download of the app you fill out a quick survey of what kind of sleeper and morning person you are/would like to be. I'm the type of person where it takes a village to wake me up so something with a more harsh sounding music selection to wake me up is necessary. If you're a light sleeper, they have some softer sounding audios that can ease you into your morning with some soothing sounds in the background. The app will make suggestions for you upon completion of the quiz.

If you're not a morning person, you'll either become one or use this app for other purposes. This app has sessions you can do right before bed to induce a deeper sleep or relax your body a bit. Download a session and take it with you on a trip. I'm going to Cozumel at the end of this month and you better believe I'm packing some yoga sessions and my mat to take with me.

There are a lot of uses for this app to be in anybody's life. I kind of think of my practice as a fun hobby now. The app will send me little positive quotes in the middle of the day. Some can be really inspiring, especially during a stressful day at work or school.

The Nitty Gritty:

This app is free to download and you will have limited selections of practices with wake up features. I recommend taking full advantage of the 1-week trial that gives you access to all of the features.

Beyond your free trial, Yoga Wake Up is a subscription service. You can do one month for $7, 6 months for $30, or 12 months for $47.  This will get you a variety of yoga routines from the world's top yoga instructors and wellness warriors. I spent $47 on this app and I regret nothing. This is an investment in myself and my mental wellbeing. When was the last time you bought something for the greater good of you? Those shoes you bought on sale don't count...

--> Instead of waking up groggy and annoyed at the fact there is a fire alarm going off in my ear, I wake up and look forward to starting my day off with meditation or a little bit of yoga straight from my bed. Instead of starting my day off with mindless scrolling through timelines that are 8 hours old, my phone allows me to give myself some peace before those first steps into the day.
