Bougie Avocado Toast Recipe

Avocado toast seems to be the talk of the coffee shop town these days. Every up and coming hangout spot has some version of avocado toast. Well, I got sick of paying for mine and decided to create my own recipe instead!

This 4-ingredient avocado toast is a penny pincher’s fave set up. I make this spread at least 2-3 times a week because I am a creature of habit. It’s also super affordable, so why not?

By making this little meal frequently, I’ve found out a few avocado tricks I’m going to share with you here!

  • To maintain freshness, plop the avocado seed on top of the avocado mix. Seal with a lid. You should get 1-2 days extra before browning occurs.
  • Add some lemon juice to your avocado mixture to lock in freshness and keep your avocado mix green.
  • To ripen your avocados faster, keep them all together in a brown paper bag.
  • When shopping for avocados, choose a variety of ripeness so you can have them throughout the week without them browning.

Now for the Avocado toast recipe!

It makes two slices of avocado toast. For me, that is one serving. I’ll let you be the judge of how much you want. 😉

Ingredients:

  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon lime or lemon juice
  • ‘Everything but the Bagel’ seasoning (I use about ¾ of a tablespoon)
  • 2 slices sourdough bread

Mix the avocado, juice and seasoning all together in a bowl. While mixing, pop your toast into the toaster. Once mixed at a nice spread consistency, take your bread from the toaster and spread on top. Save the rest of the mixture for guacamole or tomorrow’s breakfast.

Optional toppings:

  • Feta cheese
  • Melted cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Sprouts
  • Lox
  • Brunch seasoning
  • Balsamic dressing
  • Eggs

Each of these ingredients are usually around a dollar each. For those who may not grocery shop as often as I do, if you are paying over $1 for an avocado, that is not a great price. Anything under $1.00 is though!

Lemon/lime juice is usually about $1.60 for the bottle, or you can use freshly squeezed for cheaper! The bottle will last you a tad longer though.

Trader Joes ‘Everything but the Bagel’ Seasoning is usually $1.72, but it can be hard to find. It goes through spurts of popularity. This seasoning has so many uses though. I follow this Instagram for my inspiration.

There you have it! That is my bougie breakfast routine. It’s so quick to make and you can eat it on the go. It is full of healthy fats and any additional toppings you add in are just an added benefit to kickstart your morning. Toast is such a versatile breakfast food.
